Adnan Abid was born on December 8th, 1979, in Gujranwala, Pakistan. He did BS in Computer Science from National University of Computer & Emerging Sciences (NUCES) www.nu.edu.pk, Pakistan, in year 2001. He completed MS degree from National University of Science and Technology (NUST) nust.edu.pk Pakistan in 2007. During his MS he worked for 1 year at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) www.epfl.ch , Lausanne, Switzerland.

Adnan has also 5 years of professional experience. He has been working as Database Manager in University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan for 2 years. He has also worked at Ultimus Pakistan as Quality Assurance Engineer for 7 months during his MS. As metioned above he has worked as a researcher in EPFL for the Blue Brain Project for its Data Management Component. Lastly, he has been working at Alliances IT, Pakistan as Database Architect for 1 year.

He is currently a PhD candidate in Information Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. He works with Database/Information Retrieval Group, and his main interests are performance issues in information retrieval and semantic augmentation in information retrieval. He is associated with Search Computing project and is working under the supervision of Prof. Stefano Ceri.
