Research activity description

Fri, 05 Jan 2007

The modularization of the simple components combined with the ability to connect models together is a new approach to easily simulate the complex physical systems. This approach has a big advantage: the single sub-components of the complex models are designed as they are in the physical environments, the model representations are more natural. According to this it's necessary to design acasual models. The causality of the model comes from the simulation environment, but only from the higher level of the model. In addition the modeling language and the simulation environment must implement modern IT standards: first of all the object-oriented programming, that supports the reuse of the single models and of the libraries. The research activity focuses on general concepts and methods about the object-oriented modelling and the analysis of some specific industrial applications: for instance the mechatronic and the power plant area. During the last year some libraries have been developed to simulate the dynamics of vehicle, washing and drying machines.

At the moment the research activity focuses on discovering new methodologies to unify the different product realization phases. The only requirement is to do it in a "natural way" and maintaining a multidomain approach: home machine, nuclear power plant, buildings, vehicles, etc. are from different domain but all are complex systems. In particular the research's target is to figure out the strategies to unite in a single environment all the product activities: design, simulation, control, validation, testing and operator training interface.
